Sleepy Car Thief’s Escape Plan Blows Up

A banned driver injures three officers in wild ramming incident on Birmingham street.

Mohammed Shaheeb, a prolific car thief with a long criminal history, caused chaos in Birmingham when he tried to escape police in a stolen Volkswagen Scirocco — and failed spectacularly.

West Midlands Police officers from the Guardian Taskforce, tackling serious youth violence, spotted Shaheeb asleep in a vehicle with suspiciously taped-up number plates on Montpellier Street. When officers attempted to wake him, Shaheeb suddenly reversed and made a reckless attempt to flee.

Backup units quickly moved in, blocking the road — but instead of surrendering, Shaheeb rammed multiple police vehicles and even a member of the public’s car in a desperate bid to escape. Despite having a Taser aimed at him, he forced one officer to leap out of the way before finally being cornered and arrested.

Three police officers were injured — one hospitalised — as Shaheeb’s getaway turned into a demolition derby. Inside the car, officers found scissors, pliers, false number plates, and a foil-lined bag — classic tools of the trade for a vehicle thief.

Shaheeb, already banned from driving until 2027, admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and going equipped for theft. He was sentenced to 22 weeks in prison and handed a further five-year driving ban.
