Man Jailed For Raping Care Home Runaway
A 38 year old man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the rape of a 15-year old girl.
Toray Douglas was found guilty of one count of rape and one count of assault by penetration at trial at Birmingham Crown Court earlier this month.
Douglas, who goes by the name Shotty, near Birmingham Children's Hospital on June 20 last year.
Douglas bought her fast food and arranged to meet her that evening. He later took her back to his flat where he gave her drink and drugs.
At one point he told her they were going to have sex. She protested and he proceeded to sexually assault and rape her as she made efforts to fight him off.
The 15-year-old, who had gone missing from a care home, was later tracked down by police, who found her in Douglas’s room in a flat on Blakeland Street, Bordesley Green, wearing only a man’s T shirt.
The girl initially said she only kissed Douglas but revealed to a care worker what had happened.
After being arrested Douglas falsely claimed that the girl has declared she was 17. In interview, Douglas first denied having sex with her. When forensic evidence proving the opposite was presented to him he changed his story, claiming that sex was consensual.
At his sentencing hearing, prosecutor Stefan Kolodynsky,, said the victim had refused sex, telling Douglas "no".
"He then proceeded to have sex with her, at the time he knew she was 15. He knew she was vulnerable."
Judge Sarah Buckingham said the victim "has been left feeling anxious, cautious and scared in the company of men".
Douglas, will sign the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life.
He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order banning him from having any contact with a child under the age of 16 without permission from the authorities.
