Man Charged With Murder Of Gurvinder Johal After Derby Bank Stabbing
A man has been charged with the murder of Gurvinder Johal following a fatal stabbing inside a Lloyds Bank in Derby city centre.
Haybe Cabdiraxmaan Nur, 47, appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court this morning (8 May) after being charged with murder. He spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth via a Somali interpreter during the brief eight-minute hearing.
Nur, of Western Road, Normanton, was remanded in custody and will appear at Derby Crown Court tomorrow (Friday 9 May). District Judge Stephen Flint told him: “A crown court judge will decide what happens next in this case. That judge will also decide what happens to you.”
Emergency services were called to Lloyds Bank in St Peter’s Street just after 2.30pm on Tuesday (6 May), where Mr Johal, 37, was found with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Nur was charged with murder. A second man, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released with no further action.
Mr Johal, known as Danny, was a respected businessman from West Bromwich with links to multiple Midlands-based companies.
