Gunman who shot man in face jailed for 32 years
A teenage gunman who shot a man in the face at close range in a Coventry park has been jailed for 32 years following a trial at Coventry Crown Court.
Raydell Lennox, 19, from Sandwell, opened fire in Caludon Castle Park shortly after 10.15pm on 21 October 2024, leaving the victim – a man in his 20s – with life-changing facial injuries.
Lennox pulled up in a car before shooting the man at close range and fleeing the scene. The car believed to have been used in the attack was found burned out just over a week later.
Lennox fled the country but was arrested after returning to the UK. He denied attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life but was found guilty following a two-week trial.
He was sentenced on Monday (19 May) to 32 years in prison.
Detective Constable Rob Tilley, from the West Midlands Police Major Crime Team, said:
“This was a shooting at close range which has left a young man with significant injuries. We carried out extensive enquiries and were able to link Lennox as being involved.
“It’s unclear why Lennox fired the gun towards the victim – a strong line of enquiry has been that it was a case of mistaken identity.
“Guns can destroy lives. Lennox will now spend many of his young days in custody.”
West Midlands Police said the conviction formed part of their ongoing crackdown on gun violence under Operation Target.
