🔴 Drunk Mum Who Punched Police Woman Avoids Jail

A drunken woman who launched glasses and chairs inside a Wetherspoons pub before punching a female police officer in the head has narrowly avoided jail.

Lucy Cleary, 28, attacked PC Robyn Lowe after being thrown out of the Penny Black in Northwich, Cheshire, following a disturbance with another customer.

After boasting that the officer “deserved” to be hit, Cleary later told officers at the station: “I hope that bizzy got a good punch because she deserved it.”

Appearing before Chester Magistrates’ Court, Cleary, of Britten Crescent, Moulton, Winsford, pleaded guilty to common assault, criminal damage, and assaulting an emergency worker.

The court heard that police were called shortly after 11.15pm on April 15 when Cleary was ejected from the venue but returned and continued causing disorder.

Prosecutor Annika Livermore told the court:

“Though ejected, she returned a short time later where she continued with the verbal altercation. The bar manager intervened, but she pushed him, causing him to lose his balance. She started to throw drink glasses about the venue, narrowly missing other customers. Chairs were also thrown by the defendant, Miss Cleary.”

Police arrived to find Cleary still behaving aggressively.

“PC Robyn Lowe arrived at the location in close proximity and saw Miss Cleary running towards her,”Ms Livermore said.

“She detained Miss Cleary, who immediately started to resist. It was during this time Miss Cleary was violent towards the officer. She pushed her away and at one point had her hand on the officer’s chest, throat and face.”

Cleary then tried to run away but was pursued and detained.

“She pushed the officer and punched the officer several times to the head,” the prosecutor said.

“It resulted in the officer’s use of incapacity spray to her face. The officer sustained a lump to the eyebrow.”

When other patrols arrived, Cleary told one officer: “Mate, she deserved the punch in the face.”

At the police station, she added: “I hope that bizzy got a good punch because she deserved it.”

Cleary later gave a no comment interview.

Defence solicitor Hannah Kelly told the court Cleary accepted her actions and had not tried to minimise them:

“It was one push and one punch, and she accepts the injury. There’s no attempt to blame here, she does not minimise her behaviour or blame alcohol.”

“Miss Cleary is a single mother with three children. She is currently receiving benefits and any financial penalty I would ask that to be deducted from benefits.”

Passing sentence, District Judge Ian Barnes imposed a 12-month community order including 10 rehabilitation activity requirement (RAR) days, a £160 fine, £300 compensation to PC Lowe, and £50 compensation to the pub.

He told Cleary:

“That punch was used against an emergency worker, a police officer just doing their job, and I have seen the injury. They have a nasty lump to their head afterwards.”

“You were also making comments in the police station, suggesting perhaps there was little remorse. But I expect that was in drink, and I suspect on reflection you have different views.”

“You were a lady of good character and that is relevant. You have also pleaded guilty so you are entitled to full credit for that.”

The judge also imposed a 12-month exclusion order banning Cleary from entering the Penny Black pub.
